A Long Time, my views on the new policy change.

Wow. I am sorry it has been so long since I have blogged, for a while I was unable to  pull up any of my blogs and I thought they were gone forever.
Recently in the church there has been much talk of not allowing children who have gay parents get baptized. It has caused an uproar, many people are leaving the church because of this.
I just need to put in my two sense on this policy change.

Now if you recall in my conversion process, I wasn't married yet, still living with my parents, and they weren't to keen on me getting baptized, they wanted me to wait another year to be baptized. I ended up only waiting 2 months, a factor that played a part in this, is that I was moving out of my house soon. If I wouldn't have known I was moving out soon, things may have played out differently.

Now it would be very difficult, even with parents that support you, to practice and be baptized into a faith, that your parents don't agree with. Some may not know, but when I was baptized, I was engaged, I had to have my fiances permission that he agreed it was okay for me to be baptized (he baptized me, so there wasn't really a problem there) If you are under 18, you have to have your parents permission to be baptized, a spouse has to have the other spouses permission to be baptized, this is all to keep the peace in the household. The church is still encouraging these kids to go to church and attend activities.

Have many of us really developed a true testimony for ourselves when we are 8 years old? Many converts I know have the strongest testimonies. They learned for themselves it was true, and aren't going off of their parents testimony.

As far as a blessing and a name, I'm not sure I totally stand by the church on this policy change.
My husbands aunt and her husband are catholic, she left the church when she was a teen. However, when her two sons were born, she had them blessed in the LDS church. Why can someone who has left the church, and doesn't believe it have their children blessed. Then why cant two men who are married and have an adopted child have their child blessed, willingly.

Just wanted to state my views on this new policy change. I will be back for more updates soon.

Callings

Callings- a word that most of us dread hearing.


Callings can be great, but not all callings are right for everyone

A few months ago I was called as a primary teacher, I was so nervous for this calling. I didn't feel comfortable in this calling, I feel as I needed to learn a lot more, and I was enjoying going to Sunday school, we had just started D&C which I had never read.
My husband is not really active at this time and was not good with the idea of having me teach, (he knew i didn't feel comfortable with this calling) 
Well I talked to my bishop and decided to give it a shot.
I did give it a shot, with an open mind and sincere heart (Moroni reference) :)
I didn't enjoy being in primary, I was with 5 year old girls, and all we did the majority of the class was sat and colored.
I was what the missionaries called a "golden investigator" I soaked up everything they taught me and continued to learn more on my own.
Sitting in primary was not where I wanted to be.

We have recently moved to a new house, and so I am no longer in that calling anymore.
Just remember, don't let anyone force you to do something you aren't ready for.

First Calling

 

Sunday after relief society they asked me if I would co teach primary! I am so excited for this calling, and I think it will be great for me. On Sunday I will be set apart as a teacher and be given my manual. The primary president is supposed to call me and I am still waiting to hear from her. If anyone has any tips for teaching primary it would be appreciated. I am super nervous as I never attended primary as a child, but I am also so excited!!

new ward

The new ward is so great!  I recieved my recommend for my patriarticle blessing which I am very excited about. As soon as Bryan is done with finals we are going to get my blessing. We love our new ward, this weekend is the ward Christmas party that we are hoping to make it to, depending on when Bry gets off work. Everyone has been so helpful in this ward and making us feel welcome. The other night Bryan came home from work and there was a huge Red velvet cupcake sitting on the front porch for us welcoming us to the ward from a member of the ward. It has made us very happy. Moving to a new ward can be scary, but also so exciting especially if you have wonderful ward members.
